As new challenges and opportunities shape the future, we are committed to building a better world. At Bechtel, we thrive on challenges and are excited by the possibilities they hold to change lives and create a more prosperous, sustainable, and equitable future.
Building Longstanding Industry Careers
Bechtel is dedicated to career growth and development on our U.S. Gulf Coast projects, including the rapidly advancing Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 project in Port Arthur, Texas. This significant initiative includes two LNG trains, two storage tanks, and associated facilities, with a nameplate capacity of approximately 13 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum.
Projects like Port Arthur LNG are crucial in addressing the world’s growing energy demand and enhancing global energy security. The project’s success is deeply connected to the local community, with a reported local hire rate of nearly 60% in 2024 and strong partnerships with local vendors.
A Local Approach to Energy
In partnership with the community, Bechtel is committed to supporting workforce development in Port Arthur, TX, by enhancing local educational programs that prepare high school and college students for high-demand careers.
Our recent donation of tools and resources to local schools exemplifies this commitment, supporting programs such as ironworker courses, virtual reality welding equipment, and essential tools for auto mechanics and millwrighting. Bechtel has also sponsored specialized programs focused on promoting trade programs to help foster a diverse and inclusive workforce, such as Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)_ programs for women.
These initiatives provide students with hands-on learning experiences, cultivating a skilled workforce ready to pursue careers in industries vital to our community and the broader energy landscape.
Mariam, a young pipe welder on the Port Arthur LNG project, is a shining example of how Bechtel’s sponsored programs can kickstart careers. Through her training, she has gained valuable skills and is now making significant contributions to this vital project.
Partnerships Built on Community
Together with Sempra Infrastructure, Bechtel is actively creating educational and career opportunities, engaging local suppliers, and supporting civic initiatives. We have launched a new six-week training course in structural steel iron works and pipefitting, aimed at equipping graduates with National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) core accreditation and apprenticeship opportunities. Bechtel is committed to interviewing graduates and offering job placements for those who meet hiring requirements.
Recognizing the importance of investing in local education, Bechtel is focused on meeting the rising demand for skilled craft professionals in the construction and manufacturing sectors. These initiatives not only transform the lives of students and their families but also drive industry growth and community prosperity, ensuring a robust workforce to support essential projects that secure our energy future.
