Career Exploration

A “demand” occupation is one in which large numbers of job openings are likely to occur in that occupation. Operationally, a demand occupation is defined as one in which there are above average projected annual job openings without regard to salary, educational requirements, or other factors.

Targeted occupations are a subset of demand occupations that also meet various job quality criteria set forth by our local Board. Targeted occupations offer both good employment growth prospects and wages and are occupations for which the Board can dedicate WIOA training resources.

My Next Move is an interactive tool for job seekers and students to learn more about their career options. My Next Move has tasks, skills, salary information and more for over 900 different careers. Users can find careers through keyword search; by browsing industries that employ different types of workers; or through the O*NET Interest Profiler, a tool that offers personalized career suggestions based on a person’s interests and level of work experience.

Texas CREWS (Texas Consumer Resource for Education and Workforce Statistics) is a new career exploration and planning tool for perspective college students, their parents and counselors. Compare EMPLOYMENT, WAGES, and STUDENT LOAN DEBT data from Texas’ two and four year colleges and universities.

“Education Counts” in Texas! The Texas Public Education Information Resource (TPEIR) is on new on-line resource. Reports from this site combine multiple data sources to produce useful information about Texas public school students from PK through college and into the workforce. Teacher certification and school district staff reports are also available.

Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners website contains information on Plumbing License Law in Texas. This site also contains information regarding the required plumber’s exam and license registration or renewal.
